The AOBC UK English Country Backswording Finals 2014

Over the weekend on the 13th and 14th of September for the first time in 150 years the ancient country sport of Backswording returned to Norfolk.  2014 marks the 8th year the Aisle O’var Backswording Clubbe has staged the UK English Country Backswording finals and this year we were especially honoured to be holding the finals at The Sandringham Game and Country Fair on the Royal Sandringham Estate. Over the two days the UK’s top cudgel  players competed for the coveted AOBC UK English Country Backswording Champions Cup and the title of the UK English Country Backswording Champion 2014. Thousands of spectators attended the show and throughout both days we had the pleasure to introduce the king of country sports to huge audiences during each round.

Spectators of this most prestigious event were witness to the finest displays of traditional English stick fighting over the course of the weekend starting with the quarter finals on the Saturday and culminating with the semi finals and climactic grand final on Sunday.

After a fabulous  weekend of championship bouts it all came down to the Grand Final on the Sunday. The final started off with the bout for the Bronze medal between Mark Sains of Hertfordshire and Jed 'Joker' Pascoe  the defending 2013 ECB Champion 2013 representing South Wales. After a long and hard fought battle Mark Sains took the Bronze.

The Grand Final was between Keith 'Wolverine' Deans and Zak 'Wylde' Holland. The crowed was enthralled by the speed and stamina of both fighters. The bout swung this way and that and stood at 2 Bloods each when with a lightning fast strike Zak struck home to take the third and winning Blood.

Kieth 'Wolverine' Deans was awarded the Silver Medal

Zak 'Wylde' Holland was then awarded the Gold Medal and champions cup and is now the AOBC UK English Country Backswording Champion 2014.

The ECBA UK English Country Backswording Finals 2017 will be held on the 9th and 10th of September at the Sandringham Games and Country Show , Royal Sandringham Estate, Norfolk
